The number of fee earners at DTM Legal continues to grow.
Richard Manley has qualified into the Company Commercial Department having completed his training contract with DTM at the beginning of September. Richard, who is from the Wirral and who completed his studies in Liverpool and Chester, is excited to have been given the opportunity to work in a commercial law firm and says of his recent appointment:
“I completed the last six months of my training contract on secondment with DTM and I was delighted to have been offered a position within the Company Commercial department as a Solicitor. I have already enjoyed my short time here as I have always wanted to practice in commercial law and to advise business clients. I am now looking forward to what will hopefully be a long career with the firm.”
Edward Barnes, a Partner in DTM’s Company Commercial Department, had the following comments on Richard’s qualification:
“Richard has shown a real enthusiasm for commercial law since joining us here and has impressed both colleagues and clients. We all congratulate him on his qualification and wish him what I’m sure will be an exciting future at DTM.“
DTM has just celebrated it’s first birthday and the number of employees has now grown to 37 in its first year of trading.
As Richard qualifies DTM has also taken on a new trainee, Michelle Clarke.
Having worked at DTM since it’s inception as a personal assistant, Michelle started her training contract in September working in the Asset Finance Department. Michelle made the following comments about her experience to date:
“No two days are the same and a lot can happen within the space of a few hours. For this reason I take great satisfaction from achieving a positive result for a client."
These recent appointments continue to demonstrate why DTM is the new face in commercial law in Cheshire, North Wales and Shropshire

Tom Sutcliffe completes Carsington Duathlon
Tom Sutcliffe, an associate from our corporate team, has recently completed the Carsington Duathlon.
Tom has previously undertaken many running races (including the London Marathon) but this was the first time he had competed in a multi-discipline event. The Duathlon consisted of a 5km run, followed by a 30km cycle, followed by another 5km run. The course was set in the Derbyshire Peaks which meant for an undulating course on both foot and bike. In true beginner fashion, Tom flew off the start, completing the first 5km in 18min 20secs, only to then implode on the bike and “survive” the second run.

Tom is currently working on several acquisitions within the care sector and explained that “the time on the bike allows for a period of quiet reflection, during which many a technical legal point is considered and overcome”. Yeah right!

DTM introduce it's Sports Law Team
DTM Legal is proud to announce the formation of its new Sports Law Team. Headed up by Julie Mogan and comprising experienced lawyers Tom Sutcliffe and Paul Edwards, the DTM Sports Law Team will offer existing and new clients the benefit of instructing lawyers with the benefit (from a personal and professional perspective) of applying legal and commercial principles within a sporting context. Both Tom and Paul have played sport (and continue to be involved in football and rugby respectively) to a semi-professional level and are fully aware of the idiosyncrasies which make the law of sport a distinct and discrete area of law.
Whilst it undoubtedly encompasses aspects of other areas of expertise (including but not limited to the law of contract and employment), the DTM Legal Sports Law Team firmly believe that to apply the general principles of those areas of law without acknowledging the sports context within which they are to be applied would be to give incomplete (if not incorrect) advice.
The Sports Law Team will offer advice on all aspects of law applicable in a sports environment, including:-
· Professional sportsperson contracts of employment/service agreements
· Sponsorship agreements
· Broadcasting agreements
· Image Rights
· Venue related agreements
If you have any questions regarding the services offered by the Sports Law Team, please contact Julie, Paul or Tom on 01244 354800.
